Customer Reviews & Stories
After my wife and I had proceeded in buying the Groupon K & M offered for oil change service, I wanted to check up on them here (AL) as well as other avenues of reporting (ie - Google). They were highly rated on all fronts, so I had even high expectations compared to other repair shops I've seen.
The Groupon indicated that an appointment was required, so I set a time of 10am today (12/15/2011). They got me right in, on-time and with a smile. I guess my only gripe about the whole experience was that their waiting area was a bit chilly, but I was wearing a warm coat and BOY HOWDY was their coffee good! Probably the best/most options in coffee drinks/hot chocolate served at any vehicle service place I've been (including Les Schwab).
Before I even had the chance to speak with any K & M employees, I witnessed a loyal customer dropping of a box of Tangerines as a Christmas gift. Apparently the previous year, they had done some work for her and had mentioned they were having an inter-office competition to 'get into shape'. They were tired of getting candy and such, so she brought a healthy treat by. VERY TELLING!
The front office guy (Scott) was very friendly and answered off the wall questions I had about their business, etc. About 10 minutes into my wait (they quoted a 30-45 service time... which happened to be 'spot on'), another loyal customer came in with a 'Check Engine' light issue. Scott quickly offered her a loaner car to get on with her day, but she wanted to take a moment to share some pictures with him of a recent trip to ANTARCTICA of all places! Scott surrendered his office computer so she could log into Facebook and share the pictures. She asked if I wanted to look as well. DEFINITELY not what I was expect at my first visit at K & M. This felt more like a visit over to an old friends home! She proceeded to give us a master-class education on the different Penguins she encountered and all the adventures she went on.
Initially, I'd asked for a quote to fix my pulsing break as well, of which Scott handed off to another technician there (I think Matt was his name)... he was very friendly and happy to do so at no charge since I was there for another service). After the oil change was completed, he presented me a very professional estimate. He also took me out to my truck to present a couple of other looming issues about my truck. I knew very well that I needed to replace my fuel filter very soon (which they brought up), but they also showed me a couple of other issues I didn't know about. They didn't try to upsell me right then and there, just offered to be of service if I needed it.
I also happened to run into a fellow co-worker at the company I currently work at. I knew I recognized him when I first saw him, but when I went out to talk about my trucks' other issues, he re-introduced himself and asked to let everyone back at work he says, "Hi!" I will most definitely be going back in the not-too-distant-future for more service on my truck.
In total, I got my oil changed with 5 quarts of Premium Synthetic 5W-30, 2 cups of really good coffee, 1 Mochaccino, 1 Hot Chocolate, an education on Penguins, a detailed quote to fix my breaks and a re-introduction to a former co-worker. Scott and the guys at K & M (at least on 122nd) will take GREAT care of you.

K and M on SE 50th has been top notch, including finding a cheap and easy solution to our Honda's intermittent electrical problem. Matt and Jackie are professional and friendly, and they have a FREE loaner car that you can use while they are working on your car. I like them, and (a thing I have never said about other mechanics in Portland) I trust them. After I took the car in for a major service, I asked them if it needed anything else (a total invitation for expensive add-ons at other shops) and the mechanic said, "Nope. Other than the one thing, your car is in perfect shape, and should get to 200K miles, easy." Plus, and as a mom, I REALLY appreciated this, Jackie helped me move and install our car seat in their loaner car, so I could take my toddler to music class while our car was in the shop. Their prices are fair too, I called around to get estimates and K and M was much, much cheaper than both the Honda dealership and Hawthorne Auto Clinic and could do the work the same day. We've been going there for two years now, and it has been great. The one time we went somewhere else, the other shop messed up and left us with a leaky oil filter and K and M fixed it for us later (the other shop paid for the repair). I highly recommend K and M for a great local family business, which keeps our 12 year old Honda chugging along beautifully.

I have been taking my three cars to K & M Auto Service for almost three years now and have had just a wonderful experience. Their professional approach and expertise make my wife and I comfortable when it comes to keeping our three cars on the road and running well and safely. Thank you very much for what you do, keep up the good work!

K & M Auto Service is everything you would hope for in an auto shop. I took my VW Golf there about a month ago, the lights had shorted out and there was a hole in the tire. They had me in the next day, and were finished by mid-afternoon. I don't get off work until five so they stuck around until I was able to show up. About a month later they called just to say thank you for my business.
All that is great, but most importantly they did the job quick, relatively cheap, and did not try to talk me into unnecessary services. I will definitely be taking my car to K & M for all maintenance and repair services from here on out.

Everything an auto shop should be. Honest, friendly, compassionate. Everyone who came in while I waited seemed to have a personal relationship of sorts with Matt, one of the owners who were working the desk. Matt is so personable, kind, and funny too. I really felt like I was being taken care of, and that all efforts were made to make it as comfortable of an experience as possible. I will be going back for all my auto care!
They were playing this weird "auto network" on TV with some super cheesy shorts about battery replacements and such (complete with laugh tracks). I actually found it very amusing.

WONDERFUL service! Very honest and straight forward, this place is NOT looking to take you for a ride for all your worth on labor and parts.
I am your typical naive female that owns a car and knows nothing about it. I recognize this and as a result am very wary of mechanics taking advantage of my lack of knowledge and wallet as a result.
Thank you for everything that you at K & M do to keep our cars on the road and running safely. I know whenever we have a problem all we have to do is drop it by and our worries are over. Your professional approach and competitive prices will keep us coming back forever. Thank you again for all that you do :)

My car overheated and a friend of mine told me about this place. Matt (one of the owners) was very willing to look at my mess and explain how he could help. Upon diving into the mess in my car further he found out some things that weren't so great, but told me in a truthful fashion and stressed to me that he would do whatever it took to fix the problem; without making me take out a second mortgage on my house. He was very nice and professional and went so far as to try to comfort me (as I was freaking out on how much work needed to be done!) and promised me he would take care of it. I would recommend him and his crew to anyone who needed to find a mechanic they could trust to be honest.
