A Brief History of Jaguar

Jaguar was founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, which focused on producing motorcycle sidecars. Before WWII, the company used the initials SS as its logo, but due to the WWII connotation of “SS,” the company changed its name to Jaguar in 1945.

After WWII, Jaguar introduced its first sports car, the XK 120, which was very popular all over the world. In the 1950’s, Jaguar rolled out its competition models, which won several prestigious racing awards. The 60’s and 70’s were tough for Jaguar, and the company was on the verge of bankruptcy when it debuted the XJ40, which got it back on its feet. In 1990, Ford bought Jaguar and expanded and upgraded its facilities. Despite the investments, Ford was forced to sell the company to the Indian automaker, Tata Motors in 2008.

Jaguar continues to produce X-type sedans and coupes with a sporty tradition. Jaguar plans on rolling out new models consistently, and its future appears to be very bright.
