As long as there have been cars, people have been patting their pockets and tearing their house apart searching for their misplaced keys. Losing your keys is one of the most frustrating time wasting mistakes in our lives, right alongside driving around looking for the cheapest gas price or waiting in line for brunch on a Saturday morning in Portland. While there’s little we can do about gas prices and long waiting times, a few like minded forgetful technophiles have developed a few products to help make your ‘I can’t find my keys and now I’m late for everything’ dance a thing of the past.
Here are 3 of the best and most innovative tracking tools on the market today.
1. BiKN
The BiKN app, a smart case and tags are all you need to know where your keys are at all times. Although you might balk at the $129 price tag on the starter kit, you can’t beat the BIKN for overall accuracy and convenience. The smart case enables you to find your keys (or any other important item) even if your phone has died, which makes it particularly useful in those worst case scenarios. It also boasts an impressive range ( approximately 50 feet inside and up to 200 feet outside) and battery life, but is unfortunately only available to Apple Users at this time.
2. Linquet
A similar product to BiKN, (just without the hefty price tag and only available to Android users) simply attach Linquets to your valuables and link them to your phone through Bluetooth. When the phone or any other valuable goes out-of-range (e.g. for instance, leaving home without your keys), both your phone and your valuable sound off an alarm. This might get a little annoying, but at least it will prevent you from forgetting/losing your valuables.
3. TrackR
A result of the hive mind of forgetful technophiles, tracker came about through the crowdfunding initiative Indiegogo. It works the same as most tagging technologies, but the TrackR app has the added social networking bonus of the Crowd GPS. It’s a small, coin-sized device that easily attaches to your valuable items and by using the app, you can locate any lost or misplaced item in seconds by ringing your missing keys, using TrackR’s Distance Indicator or via Crowd GPS. It’s beautiful but functional design makes it a definitive choice amongst the absent minded yet stylish, and the separation alert function adds an extra alarm for the extra-forgetful. Unfortunately, it hasn’t hit the market quite yet but it’s available for pre-order on thetrackr.com.
Although some of these products can be kind of expensive the cost of keeping your job not being late to work again might be worth it if you’re prone to losing your keys often.
