Motor oil is very important to your vehicle’s overall ability to function as it provides the lubrication for all of the different moving parts of the engine. Without motor oil, these engine parts would fall apart, rust and break down much faster. At Back To Top, we take pride in providing the best Back To Top has to offer, and we can change your oil for you quickly and easily. Below, we have compiled a guide to help you check your oil to see if it needs to be changed.
Checking your oil is a quick and easy procedure, and should be performed when your engine is cold or hasn’t been running for at least 10 minutes. The first thing you need to do is pop the hood and look for the oil dipstick. If your vehicle has an in-line engine (rear-wheel drive) then the oil dipstick should be somewhere near the middle of your engine. If your car has a transverse engine (front-wheel drive) the dipstick will be located somewhere in the front left side of your engine. Once you have located the dipstick, take it out of the tube and clean it with a rag. Make sure there is no debris on the stick from the rag, and insert it back into the tube. If the dipstick gets stuck on the way down, try turning it; the stick is curved to fit in the pipe a certain way. When you pull the dipstick out this time, check to see how much oil you have. To check the condition of your oil, rub a tiny bit between your thumb and index finger. If it seems dirty or smells like gas, it is probably time to have it changed. If you need to add oil, don’t put it in the dipstick pipe. There is usually a cap on the largest part of your engine that you can screw off. This is where you put the oil.
